LECTURES
Week 1 :
Online 1:Introduction to Spatial Design
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkb3Og-bgJI
This is my first contact with space design. In this class, I learned the close connection between space design and architecture, user experience and overall design. This course made me realize that space design is not only about aesthetics, but also about actual functionality and people's interactive experience.
I have learned that space and place are completely different, and space designers will combine user experience to transform space into place and make space more meaningful, which is completely different from my previous understanding of space and place.
Spatial design is evolving with the Times.
Through the study of this class, I think spatial design is more inclined to pay attention to users experience?👀
In general, the first class gave me a new understanding of space design. I look forward to learning more practical design skills in the following courses and applying these knowledge to practical design.✊
Course 1:
This is my first formal space design course, I already have a little basic understanding of spatial design through the online course . In this class, the teacher introduce spatial design in our daily life more detail.
For example, smart phones, AI, artificial intelligence, 3 D modeling, etc. Spatial design also involves many fields, military, medicine, manufacturing and even more...
We also watched a lot of documentaries about spatial design, which interested me very much.
Finally, the teacher also briefly introduced the plan for the next three years.I can't wait to continue to explore more about spatial design and learn more practical skills in the upcoming courses.😀
Week 2: Spatial Design and Conceptual elements of Design
Online 2:
https://youtu.be/y5C9WLulyzY?si=NHDHmTP2lCTr2Xlh
About this week's spatial design online class, I learned about the scope of spatial design, and it aims to create value and understand in space across both the private and public rules.
Then we learned about many of the key skills of a spatial designer:
1.Design Thinking
2.Human Behavior
3.Environment Psychology
4.Special Planning
5.Technical Proficiency
6.Color Psychology
7.Material Selection
8.Research
9.Project Management
Nature offers some of the most time tasted and efficient design.
The conceptual elements of design :dot, line ,plan, volume, four .
At the end of this class, the teacher shared with us many famous designers and some of their works on conceptual elements.
Course 2:
After independent learning online class, I have a further understanding of spatial design.
In this class, Mr. Zoen explained the content of the video course to us in more detail.
As we learned more about points, lines, surfaces, etc. We set out to find these elements on campus, which I found the most interesting part. Then we shared it with each other on "Miro".Like this and there are dots and lines I found in campus :
Week 3: Decoding Spatial Perception: Gestalt Principles of Visual Perception
Online 3:
https://youtu.be/18O3ICeJf-0
Through this online lesson, I had a preliminary understanding of the visual principles of interactive design, including six categories, and I also saw many related examples, which gave me a preliminary understanding
Course 3 :
In this lesson, the teacher shared some basic rules of visual organization, such as shape-background, closure, symmetry, and proximity. These rules may sound a bit abstract, but they play a very big role in design. Through some examples of architecture and user interfaces, we can see how these principles can help us understand the layout of the space more intuitively, making the visual effect more harmonious. I often apply these rules in my own designs, which really makes the work more organized and the user experience more friendly.
Week 4: Decoding Spatial Perception: Compositional Principles
Online 4:
https://youtu.be/EAW9RH759xw
On the basis of last week, we have learned a little less about the principles of composition than the principles of vision this week, a total of six points, and just like last week, we have seen many excellent examples in this video lesson.
Course 4:
Recently, when I was studying spatial design, I was exposed to a lot of interesting compositional principles. Design is not just a stack of elements, but a visual way to make them more "holistic". For example, contrast can make an element stand out and attract our attention. The contrast of different colors, shapes, and positions instantly brings a sense of hierarchy and visual impact. Repetition is also fun to create a sense of rhythm in the work that feels coordinated and organized. These details are quietly influencing the way we look at design and making the work more infectious.

INSTRUCTION
Project 1:
Part A :
The designer I will investigate is Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe.
He is famous for his minimalist designs and the concept of ‘less is more.’ and he has a lot of minimalist work, and I'm mainly investigating the Barcelona Pavilion.
设计作者:LI XINLIPart B :
I will introduce the Museum of the Future in Dubai. This museum was designed by the Killa Design team and is located in Dubai’s central financial district. Its goal is to showcase possible technological and innovative advancements over the next 50 years.
The exhibition area simulates the future of human life in space, showing how to create sustainable habitats in outer space and use technology to solve energy, food and water problems.,作者 LI XINLI_____________________________________________________________________________________________
REFLECTIONS
Through this learning experience, I’ve gained a clearer understanding of design principles and concepts, as well as how to apply them in real-life situations. This has given me more direction in practice, helping me turn theory into tangible design. I hope to apply this knowledge more flexibly in future work and daily life, making my designs more practical and relatable.
