In the first week, we were required to form groups of five people. The teacher introduced the main theme of our Project 1, which mainly revolved around the digestion and decomposition of glucose in the human body, etc. At the same time, we need to develop a complete game in the future.
We decided to refer to the gameplay of Monopoly to create our game, and use ATP as the currency. At the end of the game, having too much or too little ATP will result in failure, and only having an appropriate amount can lead to victory and maintain health. Meanwhile, the game board consists of restaurants, gyms, challenges, etc. This is our preliminary idea.
WEEK 2 :
This week, we presented our initial ideas to the teacher, and our ideas were affirmed. Therefore, we will delve deeper into interesting gameplay to make this game more fun.
This week, we went to a board game coffee shop and played Malaysian Monopoly. We got a lot of inspiration from it, re-discussed the game play, and added new content. Also, this week we finalized the name of our game, "Survive! Healthy Master".At the same time, we created a new document.
WEEK 4 :
We have re-corrected the gameplay, changing from the original ATP currency to glucose, and changing the challenge to Power. We've added an interesting gameplay. We hope to make the game more interesting and educational, so we've added real physical exercise, Exercise. At the same time, we also completed the basic game model this week.
At the same time, this week we presented the game model and game ideas, including the game name, game introduction, game objectives, game mechanics and rules, as well as basic instructions, references to existing games, and a simple game model. We need to fill in 11 blanks and add more power cards to further improve the game.
Subsequently, we had a group discussion. Each person came up with 11 events, selected the best one to add. We also came up with the gameplay of using special effect cards, but it was finally cancelled.
WEEK 5 :
This week, we added a lot of energy cards and beautified the game board. Finally, we had a trial play.
It is recommended to focus on a single core concept (such as "maintaining healthy blood sugar levels") and avoid incorporating too many elements such as exercise at the same time. Exercise related content can be used as the core action design of the game (such as players completing real exercises such as push ups in the game), ensuring that the concept is directly related to the health theme.
directly related to the health theme.
2. Refer to the framework optimization mechanism of "Monopoly"
Chessboard grid design: Strictly follow the grid quantity and functional zoning of Monopoly, adjust the existing layout (such as rearranging the middle grid), and use its mature probability calculation and iconic grids (such as corner grids) to enhance game stability.
Simplified Card System: Reduce the number of "Bubble Cards" (such as simplifying from 7 cards). If "forced exercise" is the core, "sport cards" can be designed (such as completing specified actions after drawing) to ensure that the card effect is directly linked to health goals (such as consuming blood sugar and obtaining health points).
3.Balance innovation and classic mechanisms
It is certain that innovative elements such as "sports actions" and "health point penalties" will be added to "Monopoly", but attention should be paid to the integration of the new mechanism with the original framework to avoid rule confusion caused by component stacking.
4.Avoid interference from unrelated elements
Suggest removing content unrelated to the core theme (such as non core elements like "Black Genesis") to ensure that the game mechanics always revolve around "health management".
WEEK 6 :
This week we conducted a formal test of the game, and the teacher announced the tasks for this week.
We recorded a video of the game process:
We found that the game description section is missing after trying the game. We will add it later so that new players can quickly understand the rules of the game.
At the same time, we will add the house section to more clearly display and distinguish the houses owned by different players.
The content of the power card is problematic: changing "a set of propositions" to "an attribute"
The ownership of companies and restaurants needs to be changed.
Companies spend glucoin to own
Restaurants take in glucose coins
Separate power cards: divided into two parts
1. Secret power
2. Power
Finally we completed the Game Mechanics Review for subsequent changes.
WEEK 7 :
This week is still a game test, but this time there are other groups to experience and judge the advantages, disadvantages and existing problems. We will have a member to record and guide the whole process.
At the same time, according to last week's guidance, we updated the game panel, and the new game panel is clearer. But it will still be updated later.
We conducted an exchange test with Group 7.
This is the record of their test:
This is the feedback from the group 7 after the test.
WEEK 8 :
This week we changed the game based on the feedback given by other groups after playing our game last week. We changed the content of the prop cards, such as sit-ups are relatively difficult for some situations or players, and changed the prop cards to simple and easy-to-understand words. We will note some content on the game and property cards so that players can understand more clearly.
In addition, we have also determined the main color scheme of the game board.
And canceled 1 ATP because after multiple tests, we found that 1 ATP was never used. At the same time, we determined the appearance of ATP cards and coins.
We also determined that the player model looks like this:
WEEK 9:
Through feedback with teachers, we found the following problems.
1. Innovativeness of Game Mechanics
Players' Feedback on Unoriginal Game Mechanics
Although some players consider the game mechanics to be innovative, others point out that these mechanics are similar to those of classic games like Monopoly, lacking in innovation.
Introducing New Game Elements
It is suggested to add more activity elements to enhance the game's趣味性 (fun) and interactivity, preventing players from getting tired of repetitive mechanics.
2. Player Experience and Feedback
Ease of Understanding the Game
Most players feedback that the game rules are simple and easy to understand, suitable for beginners. However, some inconsistent terminology causes confusion.
Game Rhythm and Duration
Players think the game takes a long time. It is suggested to set time limits to improve the game's smoothness and sense of urgency.
3. Game Balance
Resource Management and Strategic Nature
The resource management mechanics in the game need further balancing to prevent certain strategies from being too powerful, leading to unfairness in the game.
Clarity of Victory Conditions
The game's victory conditions are clear, and a winner can be determined within a certain time, increasing the game's competitiveness.
Conclusion:
Overall, the game mechanics need adjustments in terms of innovativeness and player experience, especially in terms of terminology unification and game rhythm. At the same time, attention should be paid to the game's balance to ensure that all players can enjoy the game.
WEEK 10:
This week we had a group discussion to determine the updates to the game model, cards, game models, etc.
WEEK 11:
This week we are still updating our game mechanics. We have improved the actual cards and purchased game character models.
WEEK 12:
This week we conducted another game test and found an intuitive and important problem. If you ask for glucose from zero, the player can always maintain a health value of 100. This is a game loophole. At the same time, there are multiple duplicates of energy cards, so we updated the card and changed 0-N to 5-n to ensure the game mechanism.
After changing the game mechanics and similar energy cards, we changed the panel design of the game cards.
WEEK 13:
This week we did the physical printing and did our final playtest, when we were cutting out the game cards we discovered there was a problem with the card layout so we had to reprint them.
