Project 1 - Website Redesign Proposal
Introduction:
For Project 1, I needed to first select an existing website with design, user experience, or functional issues. I then evaluated the current design, user experience, and functionality to identify pain points. I then clarified the redesign goals, target audience, and the suitability of the new design. I then developed a design plan that included visual concepts, UX enhancement suggestions, and technical optimization directions. Finally, I used tools like Canva to create a proposal, embedded it in a digital portfolio, and submitted a link to the portfolio.

AEON Retail Malaysia |
I chose the AEON Retail Malaysia website because, as one of the country’s most established retail brands, AEON represents warmth, family, and trust. However, when I visited their current website, I felt that its design didn’t fully reflect those brand values.
It feels informative but visually outdated, cluttered, and inconsistent. The website doesn’t capture AEON’s welcoming atmosphere that we often feel in their physical stores.
My goal for this redesign is simple:
“To create a modern, organized, and user-friendly website that expresses AEON’s caring and community-oriented brand identity.”
After I decided on the website to research, I conducted a comprehensive analysis of the existing website according to the teacher's requirements, including layout, color scheme, fonts, images, overall aesthetics, usability, responsiveness, etc.
Website Introduction:

Layout:
In this section, I analyzed the layout of AEON Retail Malaysia’s website. I found that while the vertical scrolling and clear content sections make browsing easy, the overall layout feels crowded and lacks strong visual hierarchy, which affects the user’s focus and engagement.

Color Scheme:
Here, I explored the website’s color choices. The pink and white tones do give off a soft, friendly vibe, but after scrolling for a while, it all starts to look the same — it could use a bit more contrast and freshness to feel alive.
Typography:
In this part, I looked at the fonts used on the AEON website. They mainly use Arial and Roboto — clean and easy to read, but a bit too standard. It works for clarity, but doesn’t really show AEON’s warm, family-friendly vibe.
Imagery:
I noticed that the images on the AEON website are bright and full of energy, showing shoppers, products, and promotions. But to me, the overall style feels a bit inconsistent — some photos look too commercial, while others don’t really capture AEON’s friendly, family-centered vibe.
Overall Aesthetics:
I think the AEON website looks bright and welcoming at first glance, but the design feels a bit dated.
The soft pink and white tones create a clean feel, yet the layout and fonts don’t match the brand’s modern energy.
Overall, it feels functional but not stylish—it works, but it doesn’t impress.
UX Evaluation:
When I explored the AEON website, I felt that it worked fine, but not smoothly enough.
Some pages take extra clicks to get to, and the menus feel a bit heavy.
On mobile, scrolling and tapping aren’t always comfortable—spacing and button sizes could be better.
If the flow were simpler and navigation clearer, it would feel much easier to use.
Functionality:
AEON’s website basically does what it needs to—you can find stores, check promotions, and log into your membership without trouble.
But everything feels a bit flat—no response when you click things, no little signs that tell you, “Hey, that worked.”
I think adding simple animations or feedback messages would make it feel more alive and friendly.
Redesign Goals
Objective:
For this redesign, I set four clear goals to guide my direction.
First, I want to make the interface look more modern—a cleaner layout, smoother visuals, and a better balance of space.
Second, I aim to simplify the user journey so people can find what they need—like promotions or membership—faster.
Third, I plan to strengthen AEON’s brand identity through consistent colors, icons, and typography.
Lastly, I’ll focus on accessibility—making sure the site works well on different devices and is readable for everyone.
Target Audience:
- Family Shoppers
- Young Professionals
- Lifestyle & Trend Seekers
- Senior Shoppers
Design Proposal
Wireframes:
I try to use wireframes to illustrate new designs.
Moodboard:
- For my mood board, I focused on AEON’s warm and family-oriented vibe.
- The color palette blends soft pink, fresh white, and warm coral, creating a friendly and approachable tone.
- I paired these with modern sans-serif fonts to add freshness without losing AEON’s familiar charm.
- The imagery emphasizes community, family shopping, and joyful everyday moments, reflecting AEON’s lifestyle-driven identity.
UX Enhancements:
I improved the UX by simplifying navigation and organizing content more clearly.
Key features like promotions and membership are now easier to find.
I also added gentle animations and hover effects to make interactions feel smoother.
The design is cleaner, more intuitive, and works better on mobile.
Technical Considerations:
I made a few technical upgrades to make the website run better and feel smoother.
Images now load faster thanks to better compression.
The layout automatically adapts to different screen sizes, from desktop to mobile.
Buttons and touch areas are slightly larger, making it easier to navigate on phones.
These small tweaks make the browsing experience feel lighter and more responsive.

Reflection
Working on this website redesign for AEON Retail Malaysia helped me better understand the balance between aesthetics and usability.
At first, I focused mostly on visual style—colors, images, and layout—but as I went deeper, I realized how much user experience shapes the overall feel of a site.
Through this project, I learned how to identify usability issues, simplify navigation, and make design decisions backed by logic rather than intuition alone.
I also gained experience turning analytical insights into creative ideas—transforming problems into solutions through design.
Overall, this assignment taught me not just how to design a prettier website but how to create a clearer, warmer, and more human-centered online experience.
